Don't let your wedding lose momentum just before the party starts.
There's a part of the wedding day that doesn't get talked about very much.

The wedding breakfast is finished. The speeches are done. Everyone gets up from their tables and, depending on your venue, the room might need turning around ready for the evening.
​
But the DJ isn't quite ready to get everyone dancing yet.
​
Your evening guests start arriving.
​
And suddenly there's an hour or two where nobody is entirely sure what they're supposed to be doing.
​
I've seen this hundreds of times over the years, and at the right wedding it's one of the best times for me to perform.
​
Because this is one part of the day where I'll never automatically tell you that you need a magician.
​

THE GAP BETWEEN DAY AND NIGHT
Wedding days naturally have changes in pace. That's completely normal.
But the transition between your wedding breakfast and evening reception can sometimes be a particularly noticeable one.
​
You've just had the speeches, which are often one of the biggest moments of the day. Everyone's been together in one room, there's been laughter and emotion, and the atmosphere is usually fantastic.
​
Then everyone gets up.
Somebody goes to the bar. Someone else goes outside. The venue starts moving tables. Your evening guests begin arriving and aren't quite sure whether they're early, late or supposed to be somewhere else.
​
The energy that has been building all afternoon can suddenly disappear.
​
Magic can give that part of the day some structure without actually structuring it.
​
I move around your guests while everything else is changing around us, keeping people entertained and giving your evening guests something to become part of immediately.
​
Instead of waiting for the evening reception to start, they're already in it.
BRINGING YOUR DAY AND EVENING GUESTS TOGETHER
Evening guests can have a slightly strange arrival at a wedding. Your day guests have already spent hours together. They've been through the ceremony, drinks reception, meal and speeches and have all those shared moments behind them.

Then another group walks through the door.
​
Close-up magic is a really easy way of bringing the two together. There's no formal introduction needed. I'll naturally perform for mixed groups as people arrive, and before long everyone has something to laugh and talk about together.
​
It's the same reason magic works so well during a drinks reception.
​
It gives people a shared experience without ever feeling like an organised icebreaker.
And because I'm moving around rather than performing a formal show, everything else can carry on happening at the same time.
KEEPING THE MOMENTUM GOING
The aim isn't to keep your wedding at full throttle from the ceremony until midnight. That would be exhausting.
​
A wedding should have quieter moments. What you don't necessarily want is for the atmosphere to completely disappear just before you're hoping everybody will come back together for the evening.
That's where I can help.
​
I'll work naturally around whoever is there, creating little pockets of laughter and surprise while everything else is being prepared. As your evening guests arrive, there's already something happening, so they aren't left standing around checking their phones and wondering when the evening starts. They're watching, laughing and calling somebody else over, and before long the room feels alive again.
​
That's what I mean when I say I specialise in what magic can do for a wedding.
I'm not there because your itinerary happens to have an empty box between 6pm and 8pm. I'm there because, at the right wedding, I can make that transition feel completely different.
WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY?
There is very little for you to organise.
​
Once your wedding breakfast and speeches are finished, I'll start working naturally among the guests who are staying in the main reception areas. As your evening guests arrive, I'll include them in the magic too.
​
There's no stage, microphone or announcement, and nobody needs to gather together.
If the venue needs to move everyone from one room to another, I'll move with you. If timings run late, that's absolutely fine. And if your evening guests arrive earlier than expected, even better.
​
After more than 20 years of performing professionally, adapting to what is actually happening, rather than simply following what's written on the spreadsheet, is an important part of the job.
​
You won't need to manage me.
​
I'll work with your venue, adapt to the timings and keep things moving while you enjoy your wedding.
SOMETHING JUST FOR THE TWO OF YOU
There's also one performance I don't share with your guests.
​
Every wedding booking includes a private performance exclusively for the two of you, away from everybody else.
​
It's completely different from anything I've performed during the rest of the day and ends with a unique keepsake for you to take home.
​
If I'm performing during the transition into your evening reception, we'll find a suitable moment when you're both free and steal a few minutes away from everything else.
​
This is one little part that belongs entirely to you.
​
WHY MARK?
I've been performing professionally for more than 20 years and have now entertained at over 1,700 weddings.
​
I'm an Associate of The Magic Circle with Silver Star and a multi-award-winning Wedding Entertainer of the Year.
​
But this particular part of a wedding is where experience really matters. There's no neat running order. People are moving around. The venue is changing things. New guests are arriving. Your carefully planned timings may have gone completely out of the window.
​
That's fine.
​
I don't need everything to happen at exactly the time written on your itinerary. I'll read what's happening and work around it. Sometimes that means creating energy. Sometimes it means stepping back for ten minutes while something else happens.
​
The performance should fit your wedding.
​
Your wedding shouldn't have to fit the performance.

I'm based in North Yorkshire and perform at weddings throughout Yorkshire, including Leeds, York, Harrogate, Skipton, Sheffield, Hull, Ripon, Thirsk, Northallerton, Scarborough, Whitby and throughout the Yorkshire Dales.

I've worked at hotels, barns, country houses, marquees, tipis and outdoor weddings across the county.

And because every venue handles the transition into the evening differently, where you're getting married genuinely affects whether I'd recommend this particular performance time.
